What we got up to this month!

September Update

5th October 2026

One of the often overlooked processes by which we create community between us is acknowledgment and celebration. Especially when projects are ticking over but never quite roll over the finish line. Often we reserve acknowledgement for when things are over and don’t celebrate until we succeed. But this leaves a gap, in that space where things happen slowly, at the pace our energy allows. For work half done, ideas that still need space to grow, and for the months where small steps are taken on many paths the result of which we won’t see for months.

In SCRAPS we make a point of writing ourselves a monthly summary of everything we have done. Frequently we have to remind each other of things we achieved weeks ago we have since forgotten about. We acknowledge the time, energy and work put in and celebrate the little wins. This process of noticing each other with gratitude strengthens our team. And as an added bonus, the monthly record of the steps we have taken reminds us of how far we have come in our aims as a community!

Each month we will share our unfiltered and often chaotic list of achievements with you! You will see our goals, our progress and the steps we hope to take the following month.

2026 Month 8 (September)

Goals:

  • Reconnect with Nottingham group to organise another event
  • Love and Rage preparation and delivery

Have Achieved:

  • New Member!
    • Welcoming Ams as a new human in SCRAPS space offering her experience in Social Media and Graphic Design.
  • Love & Rage
    • We had a solid presence in Love & Rage, holding a stall in the foyer for the weekend and then opening up craft and conversation space in the park on the Monday.
    • Had many really good conversations with rebels and community members around their experiences of and struggles in community. Holding space for people’s love, rage and curiosity.
    • We felt we held a really open and caring space for people to be in.
    • Debriefed the event and shared with XR Operations circle
  • Soft Launching SCRAPS in XR Spaces
    • We held our stall at Love and Rage with both XR and SCRAPS branded resources talking to community and rebels alike, that in Climate spaces we have XR resources and beyond that we have SCRAPS.
  • SCRAPS on Social Media
    • SCRAPS has posted its first few things on Instagram, a holding post on who we are and an advert for an upcoming workshop in Ely.
    • Have started looking at the Blog Plan and allocating topics between us, this will give us content for socials on top of promoting our work and commenting on the state of the world.
  • Ruth is taking the Course on how we can become a legal entity
    • Has been to 2 sessions so far looking at legal structures for SCRAPS and collecting templates we can play with to create our founding documents.
  • Planning Ely Workshop
    • We are collaborating with Common Underground to put on a Community Introduction workshop in Ely on October 10th. Again using the Yoga studio and building on our community connections there and with the neighboring cafe.
  • Deep Dives in Co-Working Space through August and into September
    • Around Community Boundaries, who is in a community and who isn’t and when are these boundaries appropriate, when are they needed and when are they exclusionary.
    • What to do when we do harm. Regardless of best intent and preparation we are always going to have unexpected impacts in our community work and sometimes this means causing harm. What do we do in these moments?
    • Conflict Response Process for SCRAPS, Considering our own agreements and processes for holding each other in care through the work that we do. How do we practice trust building, how do we approach conflict responses, what are our agreements.
    • What SCRAPS could and should and might be, riffing off the Fuse course exploring structures and models, how we handle finances and ensure our needs are met.

Next Steps:

  • Organise our next COMMUNITY MEAL!
  • Finish a new Zine!
  • Hold the Ely Workshop – October 10th
